Installation
Install from Shopify App Store
Search for "Watermark Image or Text" in the Shopify App Store, or use the direct install link from the PantherCodX website. Click Add app to begin.
Authorize Permissions
The app requests the following permissions:
- Read products — to access your product images
- Read/write theme — to display overlays on your storefront
Click Install app to grant access.
Open the Editor
After installation, open the app from your Shopify admin. The overlay editor lets you create, position, and style your watermarks and badges.
Creating Overlays
You can create several types of overlays:
Text Watermarks
Add text watermarks to protect your product images:
- Go to Create Overlay > Text
- Enter your watermark text (e.g., your brand name or copyright)
- Adjust font, size, color, and opacity
- Position the watermark using the drag-and-drop editor
- Set rotation angle for diagonal watermarks
Image Watermarks
Upload a logo or graphic as a watermark:
- Go to Create Overlay > Image
- Upload your watermark image (PNG with transparency recommended)
- Adjust size, opacity, and position
- Preview the result on your actual product images
Badges and Labels
Add sale badges, "New" labels, or custom tags:
- Go to Create Overlay > Badge
- Choose from pre-designed templates or create custom badges
- Set badge text, colors, and corner position
- Apply to specific products based on tags, collections, or sale status
Applying Overlays to Products
You can control exactly which products receive overlays:
- All products — apply the overlay to your entire catalog
- Specific products — manually select which products to apply to
- By collection — apply to all products in selected collections
- By tag — apply to products with specific tags
- By sale status — automatically apply sale badges to discounted items
Different overlays can be applied to different products. For example, use a "Sale" badge on discounted items and a "New" label on recently added products.
Original Images & Shopping Feeds
Your original product images are never modified. Overlays are applied as a visual layer on your storefront only. This means:
- You can remove or change overlays at any time without affecting your originals
- Your Google Merchant Center and shopping feeds remain compliant
- Product images in apps, exports, and APIs are unaffected
- Switching themes or removing the app restores your original images
Since overlays don't modify actual image files, your shopping feeds remain compliant with Google Merchant Center, Facebook Commerce, and other marketplace requirements.
Mobile Responsiveness
The app is fully mobile responsive. Overlays automatically scale and position correctly on all screen sizes. The editor also works on mobile and tablet devices, so you can manage overlays from anywhere.
Troubleshooting
Overlays not showing?
- Ensure the overlay is set to "Active" in the app dashboard
- Check that the product is included in the overlay's target scope
- Clear your browser cache and try in an incognito window
- Verify the app embed is enabled in your theme settings
Overlay positioning looks wrong?
- Use the preview feature to check positioning on different image aspect ratios
- Adjust the overlay size and position in the editor
- Test on both desktop and mobile views
Images look blurry?
- For image watermarks, upload a high-resolution PNG (at least 500px wide)
- Ensure your source image has sufficient resolution for the overlay size
